I received the very sad news last Saturday from his wife Caroline that my good friend and fellow Harrier Tim Thorne had passed away. He was 81 in December last year.
Tim, who was formerly a member of Kidlington RAC, joined our Club in 1988 at the same time that I was starting my running career and we trained and raced together for 20 years or so. Tim completed more than 50 marathons the majority of them for Woodstock. We cycled competitively together for Oxonians Cycling Club.
Some 7 years ago Tim was diagnosed with Parkinson’s and was eventually forced to give up both running and cycling but has always kept a keen interest in the Club. As this degenerative ailment worsened Tim was able to do less and less and was admitted to a care home in 2020 after an additional diagnosis of Alzheimer’s was made.
A quiet, even-tempered man who lived his whole life in Woodstock will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.
