As this was a County Championship race, Steve Naylor was obliged to run for his first claim club Bedford & County so did not count for us in the team competition but comfortably won the race. James Bolton, Kevin Game, Sam Cruickshank & Chris Pillar picked up bronze medals in the senior men’s competition as did Brian O’Connor, Dave Cantwell, Rob Linnell & Carey Gray in the veteran’s race. Despite carrying a niggling injury James Bolton led our men home to an excellent 4th place on the day and lifted us to 6th in Division 1 after 4 races and outside the relegation places.Daniel Moseley had another excellent run to finish 2nd U20 and now lies 2nd overall with 1 race to come.Steve Mead returned to action for us with a strong debut run.Dan Blackburn earned maximum Club Handicap points and stays 2nd in the competition now just 10 points behind Mark Pidgeon so it’s all to play for at Wittenham on 4th March. Our B team finished a creditable 4th in Division 3 in the series. Daniel Moseley took series 2nd U20 honours. In the Club Handicap contest, Dan Blackburn earns maximum points but comes 2nd in the overall competition to Mark Pidgeon who is a clear winner by 9 points. James Bolton led our men home to 2nd team position and was 4th senior man with Dave Cantwell having a particularly good run for 3rd V40. Bryan Vaughan took 2nd V50 honours & Mike Shipway was 1st V65. Kerry Steele & Sue Cantwell ran well for our girls but Sophie Carter had to pull out with a chest complaint in mid race. It was good to see Hans Price & Gavin Bird back in good form and it is farewell to Martin Ineson who is moving away from the area and running his last race for us. There were pbs for Dave Cantwell, Martin Ineson, Gavin Bird and Mark Pidgeon and an excellent debut run over the distance for Neil Preddy. Dominic Croft won his 8th consecutive outright Marathon victory stretching back to the Isle of Wight Marathon in 2004. Dominic felt a hamstring strain at 24 miles and probably lost a minute or so over the last 2 miles. This breaks Bryan Vaughan’s long standing Club 40+ record. James Bolton ran a brave race holding off England Ultra international Paul Fernandez for 8 miles and securing an excellent 2nd place. James, Brian O’Connor, Dave Cantwell & Kevin Game won 1st team honours for us for the first time in 15 years whilst Jess Webb had another strong run to finish 4th in the women’s race. Carey Gray completed his 20th race of the year to date and it was great to see Jon Hill back in action. Val Berryman-Bousquet went off-course but still ran a creditable time. Winning time: 1:14:50 (Men)/1:27:37 (Women) Number of finishers: 274

Brian O’Connor took part in what is advertised as “easily the hardest marathon in Britain” with 7,000 ft of climbing all on tracks and trails.Brian reached 17 miles in good shape but became dehydrated and suffered badly losing his 3rd place but still managing a creditable 6th. James Bolton continued his purple patch taking 2nd and leading our men to 1st team once more.Sophie Carter continued her winning ways with yet another 1st place in the wmen’s race and the evergreen Bryan Vaughan took 2nd V50 honours.
