Week 4 – end of Month 1

Week 13 (w/c 22 – June Month 3, week 4)
We have had a slight dip in the mileage this week but still some impressive runs have taken place. Notably we had James complete a 20 miler which is the longest Corona Challenge run to date, Georgette has been hitting the daily doubles, Kev P took on the 3 parks run and we have had ourselves a bit of a turf war in Combe.
Distance: 888.5 miles
Elevation gain: 43,168 ft
Distance Challenge
It’s been a close battle for weeks now but James has finally topped the distance table with an almighty 75.1 miles; 10 weeks at the top wasn’t meant to be this week with Mr 60 being bumped to second place and back in his comfort zone with 62.2 miles. Third this week and consistently in the distance standings is Georgette with 52.4 miles, only 0.9 of a mile ahead of Hans; will there be a mix up in the standings next week?
Elevation Gain Challenge
Topping the week is our co-captain Adrian, with an impressive 3,134ft elevation gain. He appears to have found a hill outside of Church Hanborough which keeps taking his fancy having ran it over 40 times this week alone! Out of nowhere Jason Barry has taken second place with an impressive 3,041ft elevation gain and in third place this week is Mr Hills with 2,774ft.
Wildcard Challenge
The challenge was all about elevation this week so with hints dropped in the mentions above, our winner this week is our co-captain, Adrian. Having kicked off his week with a 10 pointer he continued on a high from that point onwards, ticking off a run in each of the categories. Kudos my friend!
Securing second place this week with the help of the bonus nutjob points is Mr Hills who ran a few double hills on the 3 parks route to gain himself the bonus points.
It was a close battle this week with second and third place achieving the same points, until Ralf gained the nutjob bonus points that is, but someone needs to take third place and this week it’s Liz with 2 cracking entries scoring 8 and 6.
Week 3 wrap up
Proving that week 13 is lucky for some, taking top spot this week is Adrian with entries in all challenges and even taking KOM outside Mr Hill’s manor in Combe (on the back of a 16 mile run I should also mention). Our co-captain was chuffed to say the least…for 24 hours that was until Ralf decided enough was enough and knocked 9 seconds off the time.
I can see this becoming a thing so for those who want a piece of the action, the Strava segment is around Combe Green and the current KOM time is 0:48. Have fun! But don’t be surprised if a certain resident puts road blocks out ?
Moving on,
Second place this week and only by 2 points is Mr Hills with 66 points. Kudos Ralf.
In third place this week and moving herself back up the standings is Liz with 54 points.
First place – Adrian Smith (68 points)
Second place – Ralf Arneil (66 points)
Third place – Liz O’Farrell (54 points)
With only one week to go it’s tight at the top but still leading, albeit by only 1 point is Mr 60 ahead of Ralf and Adrian in third. It’s all to play for this week so knuckle down guys, keep up with the mileage and don’t forget…the wildcard and effort sessions are where the points are at! Come on Tom…you can do it!

Week 12 (w/c 15 June – Month 3, Week 3 Corona Challenge)
Back on form!
Well done Harriers, this week we have gained 100 miles on the last and increased elevation gain by nearly 5,000 ft. This week (week 13) is also meant to be a scorcher so I look forward to next Monday when the numbers get sent across and I can see what you’ve all been doing.
Distance: 902.3 miles
Elevation gain: 41,240 ft
Distance Challenge
Mr 60 has done it again for the 9th week out of 12, Tom leads in the distance challenge with another week just ticking over 70 miles (70.4 to be exact). Make it a third week and I shall have to change my nickname to Mr 60 Plus!
Increasing his mileage but still only enough for second place is James with 67.3 miles. It’s a close battle between these two and only usually a few miles difference…
Maintaining form and keeping herself up there, Georgette takes third place this week with 57.4 miles.
Elevation Gain Challenge
With only 55 ft off 4,000 ft, Leo takes the win this week with a massive 3,945 ft elevation gain.
Even with increased elevation gain on last week, Mr 60 drops to second place with a leg testing 3,563 ft.
The last remaining Harrier in the 3,000’s this week and taking third place is Torstein with 3,230 ft elevation gain. Torstein managed this elevation in just shy of half the distance of Leo. Helped by living in the mountains, but an absolute leg buster nevertheless!
Wildcard Challenge
The Solstice Long Run was helped by Strava this week so even for those of you who haven’t submitted to the Whatsapp Group, your Co-Captains have been kind to you and included you in the standings. – You can thank us when the pubs are back open! ?
After a little bit of time outside of the mentions, and with a super impressive, no doubt mind dumbing, 19 miles around the park, the winner this week is Liz. Your mental power is truly amazing!
Taking second place this week and only by 0.1 of a mile is Leo with 18.1 miles.
In third place and probably missing the double backs to scoop up the likes of me on a Saturday run, is James with 18 miles. Although I would have gotten James to second place this week, I would likely have slowed the time considerably as the average pace for these 18 miles was 6:22 min miles. Yep. I must train harder!
All 30 runners were included this week so good points distribution across the board which has levelled out the playing field.
Week 3 wrap up
Taking first place, and his first time at the top is Leo. With high entries across the board, the win is well deserved! Well done Leo.
Unfortunately the double treble wasn’t to be this week with Mr 60 dropping to second place. Next time! – However…with a 3 point lead in the month standings the case of Corona may well be yours…2 more weeks to go ?
Taking third place this week and again, helped by the Wildcard, is James with his second highest place since the challenges began.
First place – Leo Brooke-Little (71 points)
Second place – Tom Preskett (69 points)
Third place – James Bolton (66 points)

Week 11 (w/c 8 June – Month 3, Week 2)
With entries in the wildcard challenge and an effort session each, both David and Susan have achieved their highest positions in the leader board to date. Well done both and keep up the good work!
Both distance and elevation gain have taken a slight dip this week. Let’s hope the weather improves as we find Harriers run more in the glorious sunshine (Not this Harrier….I become an overheated mess!)
Distance: 809.6 miles
Elevation gain: 36,519 ft
Distance Challenge
Continuing his form, Mr 60 takes the win again this week with 70 miles. Totally spoils my nickname but great effort Tom! I think I can let it go ?
Getting herself back in the mentions this week is Georgette taking second place with 55.1 miles
Dropping down to third place, a position that I’m sure makes him feel uncomfortable, is James with 53.7 miles
Elevation Gain Challenge
Keeping his elevation in the 3,000’s and taking another win this week, Mr 60 takes the 25 points with 3,360 ft. It wouldn’t be the elevation gain challenge without a mention of Mr Hills, Ralf falls just short of 3,000 ft but takes second place with 2,994 ft. Securing third place by less than 100 ft is Leo with 2,480 ft elevation gain showing that he’s not tiring of the hills just yet!
Wildcard Challenge
With the highest mileage on the weekend (30.81 miles) and the most runs too, Mr 60 secures another first place for the week completing the triple! This is also the first time since the challenges began that the triple win has been achieved. YAY!
Securing another second place, Mr Hills ran an impressive 21.24 miles and dragging our co-captain around for 15 of them on a route he describes as looking like a knackered foot. Personally I think Adrian possibly had sweat in his eyes, blurring his vision. The jury is out for me but head over to Strava and see what you think.
Having a great week and achieving his highest table position to date, David takes third place with a solid 18 weekend miles.
Well done to everyone who takes part in these quirky challenges. We have a great time coming up with them and the points earned in these challenges really do move you up the table! (hint hint)
Week 2 wrap up
Mr 60 is the first to claim the triple and it only took 11 weeks! Completing the week in style, he even ran an effort session. Well done Tom. The crown is yours!
Keeping the rest of the table the same as last week, Ralf takes second place and Adrian takes third, showing that the wildcard challenge can turn dismal (his words, not mine) miles into podium places.
Well done all.
First place – Tom Preskett (80 points)
Second place – Ralf Arneil (69 points)
Third place – Adrian Smith (63 points)
Age Grading from week 1, month 3
After a slight nudge, the calculations were made on the One Mile Race and the results are below:
James – 79.65%
Susan – 77.71%
David – 76.89%
Liz – 67.91%
Ralf – 67.55%
Adrian – 64.72%
To achieve World Class status, 90% or above is required. This still leaves us with only one World Class runner, our Chairman, Neil. Round of applause if you will.
No glory this time but still a stunning effort by those who participated. We will get the calculator out again next month and see what we achieve then!

Week 10 (w/c 1 June 2020 – week 1, Month 3)
We kick off this month by celebrating the last! Here we have below, Georgette, our month 2 winner socially distancing-ly receiving her prize. Well done Georgette!
This week we have seen both the mileage and elevation gain decrease. – It had to end sometime!
However, not one for negativity, the weeks figures are higher than the previous 2 week 1’s so well done guys.
Distance: 817.9 miles
Elevation gain: 39,158ft
Kudos Harriers!
Distance Challenge
Mr 60 is back on form, (With (I’m sure) zero pressure from the person writing these summaries ?) with his highest mileage to date, an impressive 65.1 miles and securing his lead by nearly 5 miles over second place James with 60.2 miles. Leo continues to smash out the miles with 48.8 and only beating Hans by .6 of a mile to secure 3rd place this week.
Elevation Gain Challenge
With back to back elevation wins, will Leo ever tire of the hills? Gaining an impressive 3,301ft it was nearly 200ft higher than Mr 60 who also broke the 3,000ft barrier by climbing 3,114ft. Congrats guys….great climbing! Taking third place this week and showing everyone why he’s Mr Hill’s is Ralf with 2,968ft.
I’m going to try and tempt you all once again, the longest standing record in our Corona Series is Mr Hill’s absolute gallant effort of 7,557ft elevation gain in a single week. Tempted? Anyone?
Wildcard Challenge
**The other half of this tag team is back at work this week so there has been a slight oversight in the cranking of the numbers and the age grading for this challenge – we will have this for next weeks announcement but for the purpose of the points, we’ve gone old skool….straight up quickest wins!
We all know who our quickest club runner is…yes that’s right…the one everyone watches, Mr James Bolton takes the win by clocking a 05:12 mile, but more impressively, James achieved this in the last mile of a 5 mile race! Wowsers!
Taking second place this week and also completing an effort session to boot….David Watkinson with a super quick mile clocked in 05:42
And showing he can move those pins on the flat as well as the hills, Ralf takes 3rd place with 06:05.
Well done guys!
And finally, once again, proving himself to be the only nutter, our Co-Captain Adrian grabbed himself bonus points by completing The Mile Race in blue jeans. Points well deserved Adrian and to still run under 6 ½ min mile is a staggering achievement!
Week 1 wrap up
Taking the lead for the first time, although no stranger to 1st place is James, hot on his heals is Ralf followed closely by Liz and Adrian.
First place – James with 68 points
Second place – Ralf with 67 points
Third place – Liz and Adrian with 63 points

This week we have seen the mileage shoot up by over 150 miles on last week with a whopping 986.9 Harrier miles….so close to the 1000! And we did it….a third week increase in elevation gain, achieving a staggering 44,742ft. Dare I challenge you to four weeks on the bounce?
An incredible week to wrap up the month. Kudos Harriers!
Distance Challenge
I’m afraid Mr 60 is in forth place this week dropping outside of the announcement but it wouldn’t be the weekly email without a mention in the Distance Challenge so well done Tom ?
Taking this weeks win by finally learning how to upload to Strava and not run miles in secret is Mr Kevin Game with a leg crushing 100 miles. All in the name of Charity of course – well done Kev!
Taking 2nd place this week and doing over double from the week previous is Leo with 77.1 miles – I don’t think I have ever ran this far in a week! Kudos Leo.
And finally, beating Mr 60 by only 1.3 miles is James with 61.4 miles. Its quite a battle between these two…
Elevation Gain Challenge
Well I called it and boy did you guys deliver…44,742ft elevation gain….WELL DONE HARRIERS!
With the second highest elevation gain since our records began (2 months ago) Leo takes the win this week with an incredible 6,287ft – Second to the Champion since day one, Mr Hills, Ralf Arneil. Will anyone attempt to beat the longest standing record of 7,557ft elevation gain, or can our Champion do more? ?
Leo climbed nearly 1200ft higher than second place; Kev with 5,097ft. With over 177 miles and 11,000ft elevation gain between them, these two have been the stand outs this week!
Taking third place this week, making sure that he features somewhere, is our Distance Champion, and who I like to call Mr 60…Tom with 2,900ft elevation gain.
9 Harriers achieved over 2000ft elevation gain this week which is our most to date and proving that were not scared of the hills….some may say its all in preparation for XC season but it could just be because its hilly out there! Either way, great effort and long may it continue…
Wildcard Challenge
Maximum-Small was the Challenge this week sending the participating Harriers to dizzying heights!
Storming ahead with the Challenge win and securing first place was Liz with 100 laps of the triangle junction in Blenheim. Crazy and bonkers come to mind but nevertheless this must have taken some incredible mental strength to complete and there is no doubt that this deserved the win! Well done Liz.
Taking second place is our Co-Captain Adrian with 67 laps of his village green and 4 pond reps thrown in for good measure. Why 67 I hear you ask…it’s because that took him to an hour ? usually the runner to continue around the block to tick the mile over, its fair to say lockdown may be making Adrian a little more blasé…
Finishing the month strong and taking third place is Georgette with 62 laps of the memorial field in Yarnton. Why 62? Well, not only did this make 8k on the nose it also sent poor Georgette into a spin who can now vouch for why they turn on the track and run the opposite way then many laps are required!
* No Harriers were harmed in the making of this challenge *
Week 5 and month 2 Wrap up
The top 3 hasn’t changed since last week with Georgette taking the win over second place Liz. With only 3 points between them we had quite the battle.
First place – Georgette with 65 points
Second place – Liz with 62 points
Third place – Adrian with 60 points
With that, month 2 is wrapped up and winning the box of Corona this month is Georgette with a total of 116 points. Georgette has featured strongly all month and consistently takes part in all of the challenges so well done Georgette and thank you for supporting our little bit of fun! A box of Corona (beer) is on its way to you.
In joint second place for the month is Liz and Adrian with 110 points, again, 2 very consistent runners across all of the challenges. Well done guys!
In third place, Ralf with 107 points. Ralf’s strongest weeks are the ones that feature hills showing the Combe is the place to go if you want to work on your hill reps and leg strength! Congrats on 3rd place, a slight drop on month one but still featuring.
Well done to all Harriers and I look forward to seeing what month 3 brings…

Week 8 (w/c 18 May 2020)
This week we have seen the mileage remain pretty much the same as the weeks previous with 821.9 Harrier miles however elevation has spiked at 42,294 ft helped by the weeks 2, 4, 6, 8 Challenge. This is the highest elevation gain to date, beating last week’s record of 35,050 ft, I wonder if we can make it 3 weeks on the bounce?
Distance Challenge
Clocking an extra mile than normal to ensure that he’s not beaten by any late Sunday entries, Mr 60, Tom, tops the table once more in the distance challenge earning maximum 25 points for running 61.7 miles. With less than 3 miles between them, James claims second place with 59.2 miles and in third place, Georgette, with her longest distance clocked to date of 53.8 miles.
Elevation Gain Challenge
Having a fantastic week, Georgette tops the leader board in elevation gain with an impressive 3,228 ft gained by 5 entries into the 2, 4, 6, 8 Challenge. Leo takes second place with 3,147 ft however with no entries into the 2, 4, 6, 8 Challenge, I suspect many additional points could have been awarded! And, making this a ladies week this week, Liz takes third place with an impressive 3,125 ft and another 5 entries into the 2, 4, 6, 8 Challenge.
Wildcard Challenge
In a time of uncertainly, the aptly named challenge caught the eyes of many but none more than our Co-captain, Adrian, who earned the nutjob bonus of 10 points for the highest single height gain run securing his first place win on the Wildcard leader board saving his highest entries until later in the week. Making an appearance in all challenges this week, completing a midweek 8 point entry and travelling some distance to get it, Georgette has her eyes on the prize taking second place. Finally, with another 5 entries, Liz takes her second third place for the week saving her 8 point entry to the final day with an impressive 3 Thursday night Blenheim loops which is arguably tougher than Woodstock 12 – Kudos Liz!
Week 4 results
Taking the win this week is Georgette with nearly a 10 point lead over second place Liz, closely followed by Adrian.
First place – Georgette with 77points
Second place – Liz with 68 points
Third place – Adrian with 66 points

Week 7 (w/c 11 May 2020)
This week’s challenge saw the largest mileage run and biggest height gain since the Corona challenge series started. The club ran an amazing 852miles (up 122 miles) and 35,050 ft (up 2954 ft).
It would seem Harriers like to run off-road with 85 miles clocked in the “Tarmac is Lava” challenge.
On a personal note the Tarmac is Lava challenge was definitely one of my favourite challenges so far. After way too many minutes building a route* with the idea to run as many miles off road as possible along paths and trails I have never touched before. Now I’m not a fan of running in the wrong direction and also not a fan of running with a phone and the trusty Garmin 235 came into play and I was able to drop a route on it and explore without risk of stopping every few minutes or turning it into a run of epic proportions by getting lost. With trusty technology (sorry old school Harriers) I managed to log 15 miles on the challenge with a route from Freeland to Finstock followed very closely by Liz O’Farrell’s 13.19 miler from Woodstock to Steeple Barton route and Georgette’s 12.45 miler from Combe to Finstock.
*Hopefully this is still true now as Strava has just changed the free account options but for those that don’t know, a fairly hidden function on the website is to build a route https://www.strava.com/routes/new
Strava knows a lot about you and your fellow 40 million runners logging their routes and in the settings you will find a heatmap that overlays every path & trail that runners have run and logged in Strava. Maybe this is known but I encourage people to take a look if this is new to you as you will, I expect, find a few surprises in your local area.
Anyway to the distance challenge this week and Ralf was back on top with an impressive 60.4 miles after a late night run to beat Tom Prescott in second place with 60.2. James Bolton logged an equally impressive 58 miles and in these non-race times its great to see the Harriers tuned for the return. That or there is a lot of anger issues that can only be solved by a long run!
Not un-expectedly Ralf also claimed the Height gain Challenge with 3616ft to Tom’s 2592ft proving again that Combe really is the place to be if you like your hills. Bringing up 3rd position was Hans with his equally impressive 2513ft. Overall 15 Harriers got over 1000ft height gain logged during their runs last week with Kevin Pritchett & Cyrus Mower definitely trending upwards.
This week just 4 effort sessions were logged which are easy points for everyone, not as much as last week’s Ross Barkley’s effort but more than usual. Got to be honest it’s hard to do efforts when the sun is out as nothing beats a good run in the sun. Maybe Harriers appreciate efforts when it’s cold, windy and grim in the park but I expect it’s the competition of fellow team mates that gets it done.
When you total the points this week you find:
1st Place Ralf with 69 Points
Joint 2nd place with Liz O’Farrell and myself (Adrian) with 66 points
3rd Georgette with 60 points
As with anything running related it’s the consistency that counts. Just a week off will mean you will tumble out of the top 10 meaning that’s its easy for others to climb into a top 10 position. Special credit to the “3 person” team Sophie!

Week 6 (w/c 4 May 2020)
Both distance and elevation gain have increased this week with the club running 730.4 miles and 32,096ft.
7 Harriers took on the Ross Barkley Challenge and with the numbers cranked through the age graded scoring calculator we officially have a World Class runner amongst us.
**drum roll please**
Our Chairman, NEIL PREDDY
Not only did Neil beat Ross’s time but he also scored 99.13% for his efforts in the age graded scoring. Anything over 90% is world class so this really is spectacular! Neil is also the only club runner to have achieved World Class status.
Well done Neil ?
Now, I should also mention that James would have no doubt achieved this status had he ran it as intervals, or in fact ran the 0.1 mile the same pace as his 3 miles. To run it in one go and only be 0.37% off world class status is still super impressive but shows every effort counts!
Topping the table once more in the distance challenge is Mr Consistent, Tom pulling another 60 mile week out of the bag! In a close second and coming out of the woodwork since these challenges have been set is Hans with 56.1 miles, even more closely followed by James with 54.6 miles.
For the first time since the challenges began Ralf doesn’t appear on the podium for the elevation gain challenge being knocked into 4th place by Tom who has the double win for the week climbing an impressive 3,110ft followed by Steve Frear in second place with 2,554ft and Hans with an extremely close 3rd place with 2,523ft.
The wildcard challenge was only taken up by 3 people this week so there were some high points up for grabs if even 1 picture was added. Winning this week with a ridiculous 157 signs on the Hunn Run (who knew!) was my Co-Cap and fellow challenge setter, Adrian Smith, followed by my Pub Tour with 88 signs and Georgette’s trot around the Capital picking up 66 signs in 6.6 miles.
Leader board this week is as follows:
1st Place: Lucy with 62 points
2nd Place: Georgette with 55 points
3rd Place: Tom Preskett with 50 points
Georgette is also joint first place in the overall table along with Tom. Myself and Ralf are in joint second with Adrian in third. There are still 2 more weeks left of challenges so its all to play for! Both James and Liz are only 1 point off third place.
It just shows that entering all challenges gets you up there when you are a mid pack runner like myself. As the saying goes, you have to be in it to win it so, don’t forget to link your Strava to the WhatsApp group for the wildcard challenge entry and also for the effort sessions.
The wildcard challenge this week “Tarmac is lava” is all about being off road so avoid pavements and roads where possible and enjoy the countryside trails, footpaths and bridleways. A solely off road route may not be possible so if you have to incorporate roads, deduct the tarmac mileage and put the distance in the WhatsApp message as you link it. You don’t have to change the route on Strava however you can if you wish! We are not expecting exact tarmac measurement, best guess is fine. According to Adrian there is circa 1 mile of road in the Hunn run (crossing roads is fine, running along them needs deducting) 0.5 to the course and 0.5 off the course so this will be a 9.5 mile entry. Not bad; particularly if you are able to extend it off road….Hopefully we see a few entries!
And of course there are extra points up for grabs for the completion of an effort session.

Week 5 (w/c 27 April 2020)
Another week in lockdown brings a new start to the Harrier Corona Challenge for this month.
The numbers have been cranked, the challenges judged and for those of you that have lost track of time we are on Month 2 – Week 1 and the challenge has therefore been reset for another month.
This week we picked up on the 2.6 challenge https://www.twopointsixchallenge.co.uk as the London marathon had been postponed. As many of you know the London marathon has become heavily charity focused in recent years and these charities need the help. Thanks to Sarah Kerswell for the reminder and if you did achieve something worthwhile from this challenge, then please support their Just Giving page. It seems it’s close to £10 million as of Monday the 4th. Details can be found in the above link.
I think this was one of the easiest challenges to judge because Richard Arthur spectacularly rose to the challenge and pushed himself beyond what he had ever ran before with an amazing 26km run.
As some of you remember Richard started with the beginner program last year and has seen an amazing journey. Well done Richard, this is a real credit to yourself, full of grit and determination.
I am hoping we will come out of lockdown before you’re able to complete the marathon challenge we have set for month 3 ?
Next up was Liz O’Farrell – 26 x 0.5 on that stretch of the park takes some mental fortitude. Many hearts have been broken on this stretch of the park where the club runs the tail end of the effort sessions. This would definitely not be my favourite stretch to do 26 reps on so great effort.
Finally, Susan Haines with her triple 2.6 challenge. Distance 2.6, time 26 min, ran 26 times between goal post. In the words of Neil “the triple 26 was really creative and to land on 26min took some pacing.”
Thanks again to Neil for judging this week’s entries.
Winning the distance challenge this week was Tom Preskett. It’s now the 4th week that Tom has banged out 60 miles and above. That is some consistency in these times, all credit to the mileage and looking forward to whatever marathon or Ultra Tom will be doing when he is out.
Ralf once again gets the height gain challenge. I thought I played a winning strategy by going for 2 hills at Eastend and 6 on Wilcox (Hillzakilla) for my 2.6 challenge but his consistency over most days paid off in the end. Ralf is the one to watch if you like your hills and is pushing well into 3000ft range per week. Hopefully this training will pay off if we are allowed to race in Scotland in September.
And so it comes to this week’s winners
1st– Liz O’Farrell
2nd– Ralf Arneil
3rd– Richard Arthur
The King has been knocked off the top spot to be replaced by this week’s Corona Queen Liz. Great effort all with the 675 mile run and 29,678 ft climbed.
As a side note, it really does make a difference to the points if you attempt the 3rdchallenge and/or bonus challenges/efforts. Those who log the challenges and share them in our WhatsApp accumulate points even if they are a mid-pack runner life myself. The spirit of the harrier Corona should always be a bit of fun and inclusive for all, so don’t forget to share them before the weekend is out.
With that in mind I am really looking forward to seeing the attempts for the Ross Barkley 5k effort bonus. Thank you to Sonnie for the idea. Effort sessions usually get a good turn out on a Tuesday (ok not in winter when its dark, raining and grim) and for science I’m interested what the best can do and how far the Harriers are away from Elite footballers pretending to be runners.
Lastly the 3rd challenge – Sign of the times. You would have seen the challenge go out over Strava but in the spirit of being inclusive we have opened that up to also include any sort of signs and not just road names. Not everyone is living in a town/village/city as some of you are at your happiest running on trails. Whatever is good with you do it, as long as you run. Maybe use it as a fartlek session between signs.

Week 4 (w/c 20 April 2020 – end of Month 1)
This week we have covered 669.9 miles as a club and climbed 31,258 ft which is higher than Mount Everest! – Well done team.
Week 4 has brought April to a close with Ralf winning the first case of Corona. A BIG congratulations to Ralf who this month alone (to 27 April) has ran over 170 miles and climbed a massive 18,628ft.
My fellow co cap, safely delivered the winning prize to Ralf, as pictured.
Week 4 in summary
Ralf once again won the week with a total of 73 points, only losing out on maximum points for the distance challenge which was won by James with a total of 61.9 miles for the week which has been James highest mileage since lockdown!
Ralf “Mr Hills” Arneil, topped the elevation challenge with 3,469ft which was 676ft more than our second place, Torstein. In third place was me (Lucy) with 2,784ft, most of which was gained during my 26 Challenge….which, although completed on the official date was a week too early for club points. More on that to come!
The wildcard challenge this week was all about consistent pacing, favouring the more flatter routes. With only 3 seconds difference between the 4 mile splits Ralf blitz the win, followed closely by Kevin Pritchett with 5 seconds difference.
Special mention this week goes to James who has topped the week in his age category in the CoeVett-10 Virtual Race Series running 2 miles in an impressive 10m 21s. David Watkinson also entered the race, completing it in 12m 43s which clinched 4th place in V50 category. Well done to both!

Week 3 (w/c 13 April 2020)
This week has seen the club run 695.2 miles with over 39,000ft elevation gain.
Week 3 was all about elevation. As well as the usual total distance and total elevation, bonus points were available for all runs 600ft and over. With 5 points awarded for each run achieving over 600ft elevation gain there was a total of 35 points up for grabs!
With over 39,000ft climbed by the club (12,000ft higher than the week previous), everyone appeared to be putting in maximum effort. Ralf topped the table with a staggering 4,384ft elevation gain which was an impressive 1,335ft more than second place, who was Torstein with a more than respectable 3,049ft; closely followed by Tom Preskett with 2,992ft.
Ralf not only topped the total elevation challenge for the week but also earned the highest amount of bonus points with 20 points being awarded for completing 4 runs over 600ft. Adrian was hot on his heals with 3 runs earning 15 points and Tom, Lucy and Jonny all picking up 10 points with 2 runs each.
Tom earned maximum points for the distance challenging completing a resounding 60 miles. Adam Smith took second place with 45.3 miles and third place was taken by Ralf, who is fast becoming our most competitive member 🙂 with an incredible 39.2 miles.

Week 2 (w/c 6 April 2020)
Results following week 2 challenges:
- 5km time
- Weekly mileage (distance)
- Height gain (in feet)
This week has seen the club run 648 miles and climbed 27,811 feet.
Ralf, Tom and James continue to battle it out for top spot with Tom taking full points with 60.1 miles against 55 for James and Ralf’s 36.7. On the height gain side Ralf got out on a late run Sunday with a little over 900ft to take his total to 3,237 to take top spot against Tom’s 2,940 ft. Our man for Norway Torstein coming 3rd with 2,498 ft.
On this weeks 3rd challenge of “fastest 5k”, I can for sure say that I’m far away from a fast 5k, with a 60m drop over 5k, it should have been enough to take a good spot but alas the heat (well that’s my excuse anyway) turned it into a fartlek session where my sub 7/mi run set on moving pace was actually not great when you take into account the elapsed time! David Watkinson went for it with a time of 20:38. Notable run of the week for 2nd position goes to Jonny Jeffery who managed his fast time with a buggy round the small lake and 3rd was 5k specialist Jason Barry who came in with a respectable time during his lunch run.
